Rates

Studio rates are based on a number of factors and each recording project will present it's own unique situation. As such, we prefer to quote on a project-by-project basis beginning with an initial telephone call or email. Here are a few questions to think about that will allow us to provide you with an accurate quote:

• How many songs you have (total minutes of recorded music), and how many days do you think you will need?
• Do you have a preference for engineer, and do you require production services?
• Will you record to analogue tape or to computer? (see tape costs below).

Of course, we are always happy to arrange a tour of the studio and give bands a chance to get a feel for the space.

We work based on a 10 hour day, and any overtime hours are billed at 10% of the day rate. A day normally begins at 10 or 11 am.

Freelance engineers and bands wishing to work with their own choice of engineer or producer are more than welcome.

With regards to recording on tape, most bands coming through Head Gap choose to use the hire reels that we make available. A reel will give you about 32 minutes of recording time at 15 ips, half that at 30 ips. Currently we have hire reel stock of RMGI SM900 and Quantegy 456. All hire reel stock is in excellent condition, stored in a temperature controlled environment and checked for integrity before use. Once a project is finished on hire reels, we can transfer it to digital for mixing or archival purposes. Hire reels cost $60 per reel.

Some bands do prefer to purchase new tape for their session. Current 2" tape cost is approximately $400 for RMGI or $450 for ATR tape. We can arrange purchase in-house.

Recordable media such as dvd's and cdr's are charged at $2.50 per unit. You are welcome to bring your own.

Payment terms

You will need to pay for your booking at the conclusion of your session.

We accept cash, Visa and Mastercard, internet bank transfer and cheque. EFTPOS facilities are available.

Deposits are not normally required, although in certain circumstances we may request a deposit in order to secure a booking. We will let you know if we need a deposit.
